Nota biografica

Although Mancini visited Paris in 1875 and 1877-1878, he reached London only in mid-September 1901, thanks to John Singer Sargent, and accompanied by his friend Claude Ponsonby. Sargent offered him hospitality and obtained important commissions from his own friends and clients, one of the most significant being Mary Hunter. In the autumn of 1907, he visited Ireland, where the dealer and connoisseur Hugh Lane, in his support, introduced him to Lady Gregory and the Yates family in Dublin. The critics and his English colleagues observed the audacity of Mancini’s portraits, and mention has been made of his influence on the painter Jack Butler Yates. However, his uncouth chacter prevented him from obtaining just benefit from British high society.
