Risulta residente a Londra dal 1894 almeno fino al 1913, benché i titoli di alcune sue opere suggeriscano che abbia visitato Venezia tra il 1904 e il 1906. Ha lavorato per il Brompton Oratory, la Walsingham House a Londra, e per la cattedrale di Leeds. Il successo ottenuto in Gran Bretagna gli fece guadagnare la nomina a commendatore della Corona d’Italia e, nel 1923, ricevette l’incarico di commissario della sezione inglese alla seconda Biennale romana.

Formilli’s residence in London is registered from 1894 to at least 1913, although the titles of some of his works suggest that he visited Venice between 1904 and 1906. He worked for the Brompton Oratory and Walsingham House in London, and for the cathedral of Leeds. The success he obtained in Great Britain earned him the title of “Commendatore Della Corona d’Italia”, and in 1923 he was appointed Commissioner for the English section of the second Roman Biennale exhibition.
