Non è registrato alcun viaggio in Inghilterra, benché certa pittura giovanile sembri emulare modelli inglesi come i pittori equestri George Stubbs e Frederic Herring Senior. Più tardi, si avvicinò ai modi di genere sentimentale di Edwin Landseer. 

There is no evidence that he visited Great Britain, although some of his early work seems to emulate English models like the equestrian paintings of George Stbbs and Frederic Herring Senior. His later approach to sentimental genre  scenes is reminiscent of Edwin Landseer.
