Dopo i moti unitari del 1860 l’artista si trasferì all’estero, prima a Parigi per quattro anni, poi a Londra per altri cinque. Alcune opere iniziate in quel periodo vennero poi finite nel suo studio a Firenze, dove il pittore già si trovava nel marzo del 1869, prima di trasferirsi a Roma. Sir Augustus Paget, dal 1867 ambasciatore inglese in Italia, e sua moglie, Lady Walburga, tra l’altro pittrice, presentarono l’artista all’aristocrazia britannica, che lo favoriva con acquisti e commissioni.
After the revolutionary conflicts of 1860, Castelli moved abroad, first to Paris for four years, and then to London for five. Some of the works he began in this period he then completed in his studio in Florence, where the artist was already in residence in March 1869, before removing to Rome. Sir Augustus Paget, the English ambassador in Italy, and his wife, Lady Walburga, an artist herself, introduced Castelli to the British aristocracy, who furthered his career with purchases and commissions. |
